O-Rings, Viton (FKM)
Use these O-rings to perform field maintenance or servicing of scuba diving gear.
Viton is the registered trade mark of DuPont Performance Elastomers LLC for products that accord to the American standard ASTM D1418 and are included under ISO1629 with the designation of FKM. These Viton O-rings are manufactured in the USA and have been sourced through an Australia supplier, ensuring the quality of the product.
Viton is known for its chemical resistance and for use in oxygen-rich environments. Viton is less susceptible than rubber to decay when used in an environment of high oxygen (O2) concentration. It also has a lower probability of ignition. For these reasons Viton is regarded as oxygen compatible and preferred for use in Nitrox, Trimix and other high-concentration oxygen applications.
Durometer - may be defined and measured as a material's hardness and resistance to permanent indentation. The higher the number the harder the O-ring. These Viton O-rings come in 75 or 90 durometer, depending on application.
Softer O-rings are generally used in dynamic applications (they move or have another moving surface rub against them) and should be lubricated. Harder O-rings are generally used in static applications and used to make a non-moving seal. Depending on equipment manufacturer's guidelines, in general terms, dynamic o-rings need to be lubricated (with oxygen compatible lubricant such as Tribolube) and static O-rings may require a small amount of lubricant to aid installation (without pinching) or no lubricant at all - refer to applicable manufacturer's data for installation guidence.
Sizes: Viton O-ring sizes in these packs:
- 003 & 111 (75 durometer), and
- 010, 011, 012, 014, 112 and 214 (90 durometer).
Viton O-rings in sizes 003, 010, 011, 012 and 014 come in a pack of 5. Viton O-rings in sizes 111, 112 and 214 come in a pack of 2.
