Heard of sidemount but still wondering what the excitement is all about? In simple terms, sidemount is a different equipment configuration that has been used by cave divers for years and which is now gaining popularity in many other forms of technical and recreational diving. This rise in popularity is endorsed by the divers who’ve experienced the benefits of sidemount, which include comfort, streamlining, safety and the flexibility of two primary cylinders that can be handled as singles.
The SSI Sidemount Diver specialty is the perfect course for any diver wishing to learn how to use this increasingly popular equipment configuration. This course teaches students to safely and efficiently utilise side-mounted primary cylinders, consistent within their current diving certification level. The Sidemount Diver specialty covers both the basic skills and the specific techniques that set sidemount diving apart from traditional back-mount diving systems.
This course covers:
· Equipment considerations and configuration
· Gas management
· Attaching and handling cylinders
· Proper buoyancy, trim, propulsion and position
· Water entries and exits with sidemount
· Team diving procedures and safety drills using sidemount
We undertake the Sidemount Diver specialty course with only one or two students, in order to dedicate more time to the development of your skills and to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit from this course.
This course is for both the new and accomplished diver who want to become skilled and proficient with the sidemount configuration, regardless of if he or she intends to use sidemount all of the time.
